Day 23: June 29

Now just past three weeks old, the puppies are fully into their socialization period and they are beginning to hear better, and are able to distinguish the smell of milk mommy versus human moms.  How do we know?  When the milk bar comes walking by excitement is shown with frenetic movement and searching!  Us humans get an orientation towards, a welcoming of touch, licks, and sometimes a wagging tail.

Today the puppies were lucky to have new visitors again!  But it was Mattie and Billie Jean who were most thrilled to have a visit from the female side of the Farrah family, who have Billie Jean’s sister, Shasta.  Their girls are age 6 and ‘8 but almost 9’ 🙂

Day 24: June 30

We may have some iphone photos forthcoming from today, though none of our guests unfortunately :-(.  Today included a visit from an Oakland family with boys aged 10 & 14, and another visit from a couple who live in El Dorado Hills.  In total the pups had many hours of handling from everyone, spread over several short sessions with lots of sleep in between.  Other novelty of the day also included camera sounds (they hadn’t oriented to the sound of the clicks and beeps until today), a dropping bowl, and of course new toys.

Day 25: July 1

Today we had another wonderful visit, this time from a San Francisco family with two girls, ages 4 & 7.  Additional novelty and socialization today puppies experiencing a new area which included learning how to find their way out from behind an elephant and over a minor obstacle to get to mama milk (movie forthcoming at some point in future – check back here).  We also had several “vacuum on, vacuum off” occurrences, which caused a clear startle/recovery response in all the pups.  Sorry, no video on that one.

The first picture in today’s gallery is what happens when you don’t put puppies in confinement before trying to clean up…DelPo headed for the laundry pile and camped out.  I moved him and he went right back!  So the laundry took quite a while longer today than usual!!!  If you look closely further on in the gallery, you’ll see Venus grabbing Mattie’s ear in play.

Day 26: July 2

The puppies had another big day including visitors, and they’re demonstrating a marked increase in their interest in toy interaction today, as seen in the photos below.
